A TEAM of six companies led by Aker Solutions planted saplings at the surrounding area of Bukit Perumpong Forest, Sungai Liang in the Belait District recently. The annual initiative was carried out in partnership with the Forestry Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT).
A total of 60 employees from Aker Solutions, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Adinin Works and Engineering Sdn Bhd, Shika Sdn Bhd, Shahid Sdn Bhd and Zainal Daud Sdn Bhd participated in the activity, planting over 300 saplings provided by the Forestry Department.
“This initiative is a key programme in our annual calendar as we are committed to protecting the environment and the forest,” said Aker Solutions Project Director in Brunei Bjorn Viken, who also participated in the half-day event. “We hope the initiative in planting more trees at the Bukit Perumpong Forest will help reduce carbon emissions, protect the environment and support biodiversity.”
The tree-planting programme, held for the second year, was organised by the Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) team of Aker Solutions. Last year, the activity was held at Luagan Lalak Recreational Park in Labi.
Besides the planting of saplings, Aker Solutions also organises beach clean-ups annually as part of its environmental protection programme. The company held a beach clean-up in April this year at Belait Beach, an activity participated by over 50 volunteers.
