Sabah child hostage: Police take fingerprints, seize mobile phone belonging to suspect

KOTA KINABALU (Bernama) – Sabah police have recorded fingerprints and seized a mobile phone belonging to the suspect who was shot dead after he held a two-year-old girl hostage at a house on the fourth floor of a Telipok Ria Apartment block last Sunday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah said the case was being investigated under Section 307 and Section 364 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and kidnapping in order to murder.

“Investigations are still underway to identify the suspect as the apartment residents did not know him.

“The police have taken the suspect’s fingerprints to find out if he has any personal identifying record. “The mobile phone found on the suspect’s body was also taken to study the call records and list of contacts,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

Omar said the motive of the incident was still not known.

He also urged family members and those from the public who recognised the suspect to come forward and assist with investigations.

Meanwhile, Omar said the girl was in stable condition and could speak.

He said the girl suffered injuries to her neck and was being treated at the Likas Women and Children’s Hospital.
