Royalty join over 2,400 at RBAF Alpha Challenge

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah joined over 2,400 participants in the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Alpha Challenge 2019 at Tungku Beach yesterday.

RBAF personnel Mohamad Samsul clocked 00:41:58 to win the men’s 10km individual category, while in the 10km individual female event, Lauren Woodwiss finished at the top of the podium after finishing with a time of 00:58:25.

In the 10km Military category, Khairul Anuar bin Ramli finished first after clocking in a time of 00:46:41. In the RBAF category, the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) team finished top beating the Special Forces Regiment (SFR) and the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF).

Co-organised by D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, the RBAF Alpha Challenge 2019 was an obstacle challenge designed to test the physical capabilities and endurance of participants, also known as Alphas, through a new set of obstacles in this year’s new beach edition.

The challenge consisted of a ‘Fun Run’, with two different routes at a distance of 3km and nine obstacles, or a distance of 5km and 23 military-style obstacles. In the more popular Competitive category, participants were presented with a 10km route and 27 military-based obstacles.

Prizes for this year’s winners in the 10km individual challenge for men and women have been given a boost with a prize pool of BND6,560, while a lucky draw was also incorporated with a prize pool of up to BND10,000.

Commander of the RBAF Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud presented the prizes and a donation from D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd to An Nur Harapan. Public donations to RBAF Orphans Fund were also presented.

Organisers said the third edition of the challenge has attracted more participants.

“We hope that this has been an eventful experience for our participants and encouraged our Alphas to never give up and always be ready to conquer any battles in their way.”
