Royalty at badminton championship

HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office attended to witness the finals of the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Championships at the Green Jade Multi-purpose Hall of The Centrepoint Hotel in Gadong last night.

Also in attendance were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah.

Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Wadood Bolkiah bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Mohammad Al-Mokhtar bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul ‘Ali Yil-Kabier bin Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim paired with Dessen Chung Min Tin clinched second place in the boys under-13 category, while first place was won by Md Izzuddin bin Ermadena and Md Haziq bin Roze. Joint third place went to pairs Md Daffa and Ng Xiang Zhe and pair Md Talipuddin bin Ermadena and Shahibol Faiz bin Norfaidzal.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim won joint bronze with Mohd Talipuddin in the boys under-13 singles category. Dessen Chung Min Tin emerged champion, followed by Mohd Izzuddin bin Ermadena.

Duo Dodi Setiadi and Romzi bin Haji Burut emerged champion of the Veteran ‘A’ category, followed by Amran Kambar and Zailani Yuin. In joint third place were Patrick and Yusop Haji Ghani and pair Ali Mustapa bin Haji Abdul Hamid and Kadim.

Pair Liaw Poh Chian and Yusop Haji Ghani took the champion’s title in the Veteran ‘B’ category. Lee Choy and Abdul Gapar Obey won silver, while joint third place went to Teo Yeo Hung and Cheng Swee Chen and Daris Haji Latip and Mohamad Haji Osman.

Siti Marinah Md Salleh and Nuraqilah Haji Shahroney emerged champions of the Ladies Doubles category, followed by Sazelinah Haji Md Saat and Janey Koh Yen Yen. Munyati Haji Abdul Kamis and Dayangku Nurhaziqah Azmina and Chieng Mei Ling and Katerina Robertson were joint third place.

Khairuddin bin Md Yusof and Janey Koh Yen Yen won the Mixed Doubles category, followed by Awangku Md Rafi Pengiran Ahmad and Chieng Mei Ling. Md Dzakwan Saifullah Sia and Noor Nekma Rainah Haji Rosley along with Darren Chai Chee Hou and Nuraqilah binti Haji Shahroney took joint third place.

Former Olympian Jaspar Yu won the men singles category, followed by Mattew Lingie anak Minggat, and Md Marizuan bin Md Ali and Ahmad Mahyuddin bin Haji Abas in joint third place.

Lai Shiou Yeh and Darren Chai Chee Hou won the men’s open ‘A’ category, while Dodi Setiadi and Jaspar Yu clinched silver. In joint third place were Awangku Azri Safwan bin Pengiran Haji Jofri and Woo Chang Huei with Md Fairie Syah Ruslan and Ahmad Mahyuddin bin Haji Abas.

Duo Muizzuddin @ Md Azan Haji Othman and Md Azizan Firdaus bin Ali Mustapa emerged champions for the men’s open ‘B’ category, followed by Awangku Noriskandar bin Pengiran Omar and Awangku Norazmi bin Pengiran Omar; while Md Shahri and Abdul Syafiq with Tong Kah Shen and Pan Kee Pui were joint third.

Prizes were presented by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Championship Organiser Haji Yady Riady and former Olympic gold medallist Ricky Ahmad Subagja.
