Over 1,000 people flocked to the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Chancellor Hall last night for the Islamic motivational talk by renowned international speaker and author Yasmin Mogahed, presented by Miftah An-Nur Islamic International School in collaboration with Qalby Sdn Bhd.
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Jefriah attended the talk.
Centred on her Islamic bestseller book Reclaim Your Heart: Personal insights on breaking free from life’s shackles, the author spoke about the journey of the heart – in and out of the ocean of life, and the contents of her book based on her life experiences.
“This is a book about how we can start to live in this life, without being a slave to this life… about how we can live in dunya without allowing dunya to own us, and that is not an easy thing to do. When you allow dunya to become deep inside of your heart, when you allow yourself to love dunya in a way we’re not supposed to love dunya, that’s when dunya destroys us,” she said.
The author explained that Reclaim Your Heart is about the process of taking our hearts back from the dunya, as well as the things we’ve given our hearts to – such as money, status, power, fame, or another person in our lives.
“Whatever we take into our hearts and absorb into the core of our hearts becomes our master, and that is why there are people out there that have given their hearts away to money, fame, careers, power or status,” she said.
In her book, Yasmin also touched on false attachments, love, hardships, relationship with the Creator, women’s status, and Ummah among others. The objective of the Islamic motivational talk was to connect this to life’s true purpose that tends to be forgotten.
Yasmin Mogahed is the first Islamic motivational speaker presented by Miftah An-Nur International School in collaboration with Qalby Sdn Bhd in Brunei, and the country is the final stop for Yasmin Mogahed’s long tour this year. She delivered talks in Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
