Royal presence at badminton tournament

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the opening day of the Brunei Darussalam CHSK Badminton Cup 2021 in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam 37th National Day celebration at the CHSK Badminton Court in Kiudang yesterday.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim competed in the under-14 boys’ doubles category alongside his partner Dessen Chung Min Tin under the team Flying Gravity against Muhd Haikal Nizamuddin bin Haji Hardi and Sebastian Matthew Buckingham from R&T.

Yang Teramat Mulia and his teammate enjoyed a comfortable straight-set 21-0 21-3 victory and repeated their feats with a 21-8 21-11 victory over Eric Sia Ming Chai and Zayyan Aaryan bin Noorhadzrin of BRKP OCT in the next match.

The third group game match will see Yang Teramat Mulia and Dessen Chung take on Raymond and Alwin from Easyway to complete their group stage fixtures.

Meanwhile, Yang Teramat Mulia’s team Flying Gravity collected all points against R&T to win 12-0 in the opening group match.

Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah in action.

Guest of honour Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Umarali bin Esung launched the competition yesterday.

One of the highlights of the event was a march-past by the eight participating teams namely Flying Gravity, R&T, BRKP OCT, Easyway, Honey Carsmart, RHTS, D’Sunlit and Muara Port Company as well as the guest of honour being introduced to the teams.

The remaining opening group games in Group ‘B’ saw Honey Carsmart taking on RHTS and D’Sunlit facing Muara Port Company.

The eight teams are divided into two groups in which the top two ranked teams will proceed to the semi-finals on March 26.

The final and the third place playoff matches are scheduled to be held on March 28.

The two-week-long competition is set to conclude with a closing ceremony and a prize presentation.
