His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman attended the fifth day of the Aewon Badminton Open Championship 2019 at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim lost 10-21, 15-21 to Muhammad Talipudin bin Ermadena in the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles (Under-12) category.
Also in attendance was Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah.
The Men’s Doubles (Under-12) category will take place this Friday with Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim and his doubles’ partner Dessen Chung Min Tin taking on Muhammad Alif Zuhairi bin Ramlee and Muhammad Al-Muttaqiy Billah.
The other semi-final will see the pairing of Mohd Daffa Dany bin Ali Hussin and Jed Ng Xiang Zhe up against Mohd Haziq bin Roze and Muhammad Hamizan bin Maysufrizal.
The winner of both semi-final matches will play in the title decider on Saturday for a shot at the gold medal.
Muhammad Talipudin will play Dessen Chung Min Tin in the final of the Men’s Singles (Under-12) category on Friday after the latter came through a stern test with a 21-12 14-21, 21-16 win against Mohd Haziq bin Roze in the other last-four match.
In the Men’s Doubles ‘B’ Open quarterfinals, the pair of Pui Wee Young and Radzien Jawharee Jemain marched to the last four after they won in straight sets 21-14, 21-14 against Azri Safwan and Chang Huei.
Meanwhile in the Men’s Doubles ‘A’ Open, the duo of Abdul Rahman bin Haji Mohd Tahir and Yusman Mohd Jenin edged a step closer to the title after they booked a spot in the semi-finals.
Other categories being contested last night were Men’s Singles Open, Women’s Doubles Open, Mixed Doubles Open and Veteran Doubles Open.
The tournament continues tonight with the semi-finals of the Women’s Doubles Open as well as matches in the Men’s Doubles ‘A’ and ‘B’, Mixed Doubles and eteran Doubles.
Organised by Aewon Brunei with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Brunei Darussalam National Badminton Association, the tournament attracted more than 400 shuttlers including from neighbouring state Miri, Sarawak.
