Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the royal birthday celebrations have been complemented with Zikir and prayers for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s well-being.

This was highlighted by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned in a special talk to mark the royal birthday, which was aired on Radio Television Brunei (RTB) yesterday.

He said, “July 15 is an auspicious occasion in the sultanate, with the nation celebrating His Majesty’s birthday. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebrations are different this year.

However, the mood continues to be sanguine and undiminished. Although major events could not be staged across the country, the Doa Kesyukuran and prayers were held at mosques. It means that this traditional event is still being complemented with religious activities through Zikir, invoking the blessings of Allah the Almighty for the safety of our sovereign, and Al-Quran recitations.

“When we celebrate the royal birthday, it is appropriate and worthwhile to remember His Majesty’s charitable deeds, which is an act of grace loved by Allah the Almighty.

“Apart from giving alms or contributions through Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, His Majesty customarily gives personal contributions in the form of Kurnia, to eligible recipients prior to the festive Hari Raya celebrations.

“This year, 21,454 recipients were recorded, compared to 19,913 in 2019 and 19,576 in 2018. The recipients were most grateful and filled with joy for the Kurnia contributions. Allah the Almighty blesses those who support the underprivileged and the needy.”
