THE Magistrate’s Court yesterday sentenced a local man to eight months’ imprisonment, after he pleaded guilty to committing mischief in the breaking of a car window.
Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman heard from Deputy Public Prosecutor Raihan Nabilah binti Ahmad Ghazali that a couple had been travelling in their vehicle along Jalan Berangan at 9.50pm on March 23, when they saw Cheong Foo Keong, 49, throwing rocks at the car ahead of them.
As the couple passed the defendant, they heard a loud crashing sound when a rock hit one of their car windows.
The defendant then walked quickly away from the scene, while the couple lodged a police report.
Shortly afterwards, a resident in the area approached the couple to disclose that the man was a neighbour, before handing them the defendant’s phone number.
The couple contacted the defendant to arrange payments for the repairs of the smashed window. They were paid BND350 on March 25.
Police investigations led to the defendant’s arrest on the same day.
