Each citizen needs to have the right mindset and positive mentality to realise Brunei Vision 2035, said Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

The minister said this in his remarks as the guest of honour during the 41st Brunei Citizenship Certificate Presentation Ceremony at Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

He added that the right mindset includes understanding one’s role as a responsible citizen, always being ready for change to become better and open to progress. With such mentality, every citizen can support the country’s goal to become a country known for its highly educated citizens, good quality of life and sustainable economy, he said.

In the rapidly changing era of globalisation, the minister said, “Education and the development of human capital remain a national priority. A skilled, resilient and innovative population is essential for continued competition and contribution to national development.”

In addition to technical skills, he said, “Values such as discipline, creativity and a positive attitude are also crucial in shaping high-quality human capital. In other words, national development requires integrated, strategic and continuous efforts at all levels, from government policies to community initiatives. The roles of individuals, families and educational institutions are equally important in instilling the foundation of values, skills and spirit of innovation.”

At the same time, he said, “Cooperation between the government, private sector and community is not only important but must be strengthened through smart partnerships, joint initiatives, and ongoing support. This is the key to building a strong, progressive nation that is capable of facing global challenges with confidence.”

The minister also highlighted, “Soon, we will celebrate the New Year 2025 and Brunei Darussalam will mark its 41st year of independence. Under the leadership of our monarch, our country has achieved progress and success, gaining recognition on the global stage. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s leadership has also succeeded in shaping a multi-religious and multi-ethnic society that lives in peace, harmony, and prosperity, with mutual respect.”

Education, he said “whether formal or informal, plays a crucial role in shaping an individual’s mind, attitude, and character based on the values enshrined in the nation’s philosophy, Malay Islamic monarchy (MIB)”.

He also highlighted, “His Majesty’s proclamation during the declaration of independence continues to serve as the main guide in determining the nation’s direction, reminding us that independence is not just a celebration but a catalyst for contributing to the country’s development. Our role as citizens is vital, especially in the collective effort to achieve Brunei Vision 2035.” – James Kon
