Ride raises awareness on men’s health

About 80 riders, clad in cravats and ties pressed their tweed and sat astride their classic and vintage styled motorcycles, making a convoy ride around the Brunei-Muara District to join over 120,000 distinguished gentlefolks from over 650 cities worldwide for the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) Brunei event organised by BIG BWN.

Organiser Azim Ghani noted that he and the DGR Brunei committee members organised the event since 2014. He said this year, the event was jointly hosted with @recyclesmc in collaboration with Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd and BIG BWN as well as support from local and international sponsors.

This year’s sponsors were Progresif, Samo Furniture, I-Lotus Restaurant, Dart Brunei, Chaps n Rebels, Sean Speed Shop, Yayasan Complex and Arkitek Watches.

“We had 80 riders registered in this year’s event and successfully collected USD4,437 with rider Wina Hasfiza named top collector with $2,158 followed by Andy Power who collected $824 and Chris Yong with $674. Meanwhile, the total accumulated internationally was USD5,283,740 and recording 111,852 registered riders,” said Azim.

With the objectives to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and men’s mental health, DGR Brunei 2019 was flagged off at Progresif headquarters in Gadong before entering the Hassanal Bolkiah Highway to Jerudong Park as their first pit stop for a group photo. From Jerudong Park they headed to the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium for their second pit stop and then headed to Subok and another pit stop at the Brunei Arts & Handicraft Training Centre before riding to their end point at Kaizen Restaurant of the Dermaga Diraja in the capital.

At the finish line, there was also the BWN Sunday Market from 11am to 7pm at the Yayasan Complex’s Waterfront/Kaizen Restaurant parking area with plenty of different activities throughout the day.

The public was welcomed to come dressed dapper for both males and females and take pictures at the official DGR 2019 photo backdrop.
