AN INDIVIDUAL in Seria was issued a compound fine yesterday by the Enforcement Unit of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board for violating Chapter 30, Section 12 of the Minor Offences Act.

Manager of a restaurant in Seria Sea Kaw Yang was fined BND300 for allowing a grease trap at the restaurant to be clogged and not properly maintained, causing dirty water and grease to flow into the public drain system.

This resulted in the drains emitting a foul smell and becoming a great source of distress to the nearby residents.

Sea has been given seven days to settle the fine, failing which he will be prosecuted in court. If convicted, he will be handed a further BND1,000 fine. For subsequent offences, a fine of BND3,000 and imprisonment not exceeding three months will be levied.

The Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board is reminding companies, especially restaurant and eatery owners, to ensure that grease traps at their establishments are properly cleaned and maintained to prevent or reduce grease trap odours.

The public are also advised to properly dispose of rubbish at designated dumping zones and not indiscriminately leave them in public areas.

Complaints on incidences of public dumping can be lodged with the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board’s Enforcement Unit via 8896108 or by calling the Darussalam hotline at 123.
