In a decisive game against Yun Hin, Rest Indah Damai secured the champion title as the buzzer rang for the last time in the finals for the Aewon Basketball Challenge Cup 2023 at the Seria’s New Village Basketball Court on Friday.
The finals saw both teams starting strong with Rest Indah Damai gaining a head start in the first quarter with a three-point lead of 20-17.
While Yun Hin managed to maintain the gap in the second quarter and even traded three-pointers shots back to back against their opponent during the early half of the third quarter, Rest Indah Damai accelerated their lead in the third and final quarters of the match resulting in a 25-point gap of 96-71.
Meanwhile, the runner-up match saw T Best Co and Services unceremoniously place third as Setia Edge did not have the proper number of players present during the start of the match, with the former placing fourth as a result.
Legislative Council member and Village Head of Kampong Bukit Sawat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann and Aewon PPE General Manager Justin Hong Ping Khiong presented prizes.
The most valuable player (MVP) award went to Jomarie Malong Corpiuz of Rest Indah Damai.
The tournament was held in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. – Daniel Lim
