Religious event marks royal birthday

As an expression of love and affection to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, former sixth form students in Jalan Muara dubbed ‘PTE Klasik Jalan Muara’ of 1975-78 intake held a ceremony to start the reading of Al-Quran to mark the monarch’s 75th birthday at Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque in Kampong Manggis/Madang yesterday.

The event aimed to show undivided loyalty to His Majesty as the ruler and the people’s monarch.

The programme was the second of its kind being held.

Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yusof, former PTE Jalan Muara student, attended along with other students from the 1975-78 intake.

The event included the reading of Sayyidul Istighfar, recitation of Al-Quran, Tahlil and Doa Arwah for departed students as well as parents of the former students.

A special Doa Kesyukuran was also read.
