Religious event marks National Youth Day

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) yesterday held a recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil for Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, and for His Majesty’s late son Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim, at the Royal Mausoleum.

The ceremony served to commemorate the 17th National Youth Day celebration.

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad attended as the guest of honour.

Deputy Minister of the Department of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office as Deputy Chairman of Executive Committee for the 17th National Youth Day Celebration, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Permanent Secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries of various ministries, executive committee members of 17th National Youth Day celebration, youth movements and associations, students from higher education and schools, and government officers were also present.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Yaasiin and Tahlil, led by Haji Hazwan bin Haji Salim, winner of the National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Youth for 1443 Hijrah.

The religious gathering was a side event to mark the National Youth Day celebration which is set to be held on August 9 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
