Religious event marks BSB name anniversary

Over 300 people representing 1,722 participants took part in a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque to commemorate with the 50th anniversary of the renaming of Bandar Brunei to Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB).

Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong was the guest of honour.

The annual ceremony by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department was aimed at gaining the blessings of Allah the Almighty.

It was also part of the ongoing efforts to further strengthen Islamic values in line with the country’s philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar. The Takhtim and Doa Khatam were recited by Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque Officer Begawan Mudim Haji Amran bin Haji Mohd Salleh.

The ceremony was enlivened by a Dikir Marhaban and Doa Kesyukuran.
