Religious ceremonies enliven fasting month

The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and its departments held a Tedarus Al-Quran ceremony at the Suri Seri Begawan Raja Pengiran Anak Damit Mosque, Kampong Manggis Madang in conjunction with the month of Ramadhan yesterday.

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong was the guest of honour.

Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MPRT Haji Mohd Yusree bin Haji Junaidi, department heads, senior officers and staff at MPRT were also present.

The event commenced with a waqaf donation handover from the MPRT in the form of mosque equipment by the minister to the mosque’s Imam and Mosque Affairs Officer Nuzli bin Haji Jumat.

The event continued with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour followed by the mass recitation of verses of Al-Quran. The event concluded with a mass Asar prayer.

The Islamic Da’wah Centre (PDI) also held a Tedarus Al-Quran ceremony in celebration of Ramadhan while providing guidance for new converts (Muallaf) in observing and practising fasting at the Kampong Merangking Religious Hall, Ulu Belait on Wednesday.

Assistant Director of the PDI Abdul Aziz bin Haji Abdul Kahar led the contingent comprising the Dakwah Development Division, the Muallaf Development Division, as well as the Research and Publication Division under the PDI attended the ceremony.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a tazkirah by Religious Development Officer (i-Ready) Abdul Khaliq bin Kamree.

The ceremony also saw the handing of the Muallaf guidance book titled ‘Panduan Sembahyang Sunat Tarawih dan Ratib al-Attas’ to the new converts, as well as a presentation of books published by the PDI for use at the religious hall.

Meanwhile, the Khatam Al-Quran Working Committee organised an online Khatam Al-Quran ceremony for religious teachers and staff of Brunei I religious schools on Wednesday.

Some 221 participated in the ceremony, comprising 75 men and 146 women.

Head of the Special Education Unit of the Islamic Studies Department Haji Mohd Suffri Sofian bin Haji Mohd Umar was the guest of honour.

The ceremony aimed to enliven the month of Ramadhan with religious activities and programmes; to inculcate the culture of Hubbul Quran (loving Al-Quran) among religious teachers; and providing an opportunity to improve the recitation of verses of Al-Quran; and fostering closer ties among the schools’ staff.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Sayyidul Istighfar and Doa before the recitation of Al-Quran and Surah Al-Fatihah led by the guest of honour. This was followed with the recitation of Surah-Surah Lazim from Adh-Dhuha up to An-Nas; Takhtim and Tahlil before concluding with Doa Khatam, Dikir Marhaban, Doa Allah Peliharakan Sultan dan Brunei Darussalam and Doa Selamat.
