Registration opens for ISESCO projects

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) as the Secretariat for the Bandar Seri Begawan as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the Asian Region 2019 said that two initiative projects under the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) are now open to interested parties.

The ISESCO Islamic Culture Capitals Best Cultural Projects Award is open to the best project that fulfils the ISESCO criteria, such as best governance, bringing all communities together to participate, enhancing cultural dimensions, and making Bandar Seri Begawan as the Capital of Islamic Culture. The award is to the tune of USD5,000.

The award encourages participants to produce strong creative works, emphasise the management of participatory management projects and the importance of cultural dimensions in urban policies and planning of the Capital of Islamic Culture, and finally, integrating the services of the cultural and heritage sectors in the economic and social development of the Capital of Islamic Culture.

Meanwhile, the ISESCO Incentive Prize in Traditional Industries and Handicrafts will be awarded to outstanding individuals in Brunei Darussalam.

The selection criteria are based on products that are unique and authentic in their traditional, hereditary, and Islamic character; public and international sustainability, robust, stable and applicable nationally and internationally; is recognised as an industrial product whether it is a cottage industry, or a large industry, and at the same time, has an impact on the national economy.
