THE fourth edition of Startup Weekend Brunei (SWB) will take place on September 21-23 at the iCentre, Anggerek Desa Technology Park.

The event organised by the Startup Weekend Brunei Team comprises five different startups and organisations – Creativate, InTurn, The Creative Core BN (TCCBN), EICO Enterprise and Fundnel – all based at iCentre and Knowledge Hub (KHub) at the Anggerek Desa Technology Park.

Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd is taking on the role of Strategic Partner, while DARe (Darussalam Enterprise) is the ecosystem partner.

According to a press release from SWB, Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event that brings together active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures.

Powered by Google for Entrepreneurs and Techstars, Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of passionate entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower communities to launch life changing ideas.

The press release states that, “Regionally, Techstars Foundation Asia Pacific is taking the month of September to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in the workplace, through highlighting women’s presence in any professional working environment and communities.

For the four weekends in September, Techstars are encouraging as many countries in Asia Pacific to organise a Startup Weekend Women.

“Locally, the SWB Team would like to join in this regional call to action to highlight the diverse role that women play in communities and the professional work space.

“When we speak about diversity, we speak about diversity that is brought into a work or social space, in terms of experiences, skills and leadership styles.

It has been proven that companies which involve women in executive or decision making level positions have an increased productivity overall.”

It was shared that the event will give participants a chance to meet with mentors and like-minded individuals, as well as the opportunity to compete in Bali, Indonesia in October and be a part of a regional movement with other startup weekends happening this month.

With each edition, Startup Weekend Brunei sees a list of local mentors that volunteer their weekend to spend their time closely guiding the participating team members through the development of their idea.

The press release noted that the mentors for this edition are former assistant CEO at Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) and personal coach Ang Ley Hian, founder of muBn Learning and Growth Company and co-founder of Tarbiyyah Global Dr Hajah Mona Yati binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Mohd Kassim and, founder and CEO of Agrome IQ Dr Vanessa Teo.

Registration for the event is on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis and is open until tomorrow.
