Register for dog licence, owners told

    James Kon

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) yesterday urged dog owners in the Sultanate to register for a dog licence before February 1, 2023.

Pet dogs aged three months and above (before February 1 of every year) are required to be registered, as are those with expired licences and badges.

The dog licence is BND5, while registration is BND3. Registration can be done at counters located on the third floor of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department at Jalan Perdana Menteri from Monday to Thursday between 8.15am and 3pm and from 8.15am to 10.30am on Saturdays.

For those in the Belait District, registration can be conducted at the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department’s payment counter at the main building, located at Jalan McKerron, on Monday to Thursday from 8.15am to noon and 1.30pm to 3pm, or from 8am to 10am on Saturdays.

Dog owners can also go to the Tutong Municipal Department’s government department main building at Bukit Bendera, with counter services available from Monday to Wednesday from 8am to 11.30am and 1.45pm to 2.45pm. On Thursday, the counter is open from 10.30am to 11.30 am and 1.45pm to 2.45pm, while on Saturday it operates from 8am to 11.30am.

Section 4, Chapter 60 of the Dogs Act states that it is an offence for a dog owner not to register their canine pets. If found guilty, the owner can be fined BND250 or face 14 days imprisonment for the first offence, a BND500 fine or one month’s imprisonment for the second and subsequent offences.

The MoHA reminded the public that registered dogs should have a tag around the neck at all times. Owners who have registered their dog but have yet to place the dog tag on their pets will be levied a BND250 fine or one month’s imprisonment under Section 5(1), Chapter 60 of the Dogs Act.

Dog owners will bear full responsibility for their pets and should keep them in the home compound either caged or leashed.

For information on registration, contact the BSB Municipal Department at 2232426 (ext 303), Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department at 3335567/3347495 or Tutong Municipal Department at 4221009/8282965.
