Regional oratory contest attracts Malaysians, Indonesians

Maqasid Syariah is important in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the success of oratory art depends on clear argumentation and captivating delivery, said Nurhafizatulhikmah binti Haji Seribini at the first-ever regional oratory competition held on September 28 in conjunction with the 14th Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) Mahrajan Hafl Al-Takharruj at Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Balai Khazanah Islam.

Muhammad Mukhlisul Mubin bin Julasapiyah from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia won the competition, followed by Najmi Adli bin Mustaffa from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and Roselind Nadiera binti Talib from Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah, Malaysia.

Organised by UNISSA in collaboration with the Student Affairs Office and the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language, the competition aimed to showcase hidden talents in public speaking, broaden students’ knowledge of the Malay language and build their confidence while fostering healthy competition.

Participants from local and international institutions of higher learning were invited to join.

Local institutions included Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) and UNISSA. International participants were from Malaysian and Indonesian universities. UNISSA Rector Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal was the guest of honour.

Other attendees included representatives from the Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam and the Malaysian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam. – Fadley Faisal
