Reference on list of controlled products readily available online

THE Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED), Ministry of Finance and Economy, would like to thank Seeking for Justice for the letter ‘Paying the fine for something unintentional’ published in the Opinion page of the Borneo Bulletin on October 17, 2018.

The list of goods and tariff rates is specified in the Brunei Darussalam Tariff and Trade Classification 2017 and is available on www.tradingacrossborders.gov.bn website.

Reference on the list of controlled products and the controlling agencies as well as other customs matters can also be found on this website.

Information are also provided on the Ministry of Finance and Economy’s Facebook Page or the ministry’s Instagram account ‘mofebrunei’.

Members of the public are also reminded that as specified in Section 136 of Customs (Amendment) Order 2018 and Section 142 of Excise (Amendment) Order 2018, making a false declaration or failure to make dutiable declaration as required is a compoundable offence of not exceeding BND5,000.

If exceeding the compound amount, the person shall be liable on conviction to a fine equivalent of the amount customs duty payable or USD40,000 whichever is the greater and imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or both as specified in Section 138 of Customs Order 2006 and Section 144 of Excise Order 2006.
