Referee destroyed game against Indonesia, says Brunei head coach

The red card against defender Alinur Rashimy Jufri in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup game against Indonesia on Monday “destroyed” the game, said national team head coach Mario Rivera in the post-match conference.

Brunei Darussalam was beaten by Indonesian 7-0 on Monday.

The Wasps were already two goals behind when the referee issued a red card in the 38th minute, leaving the national team with 10 men against a tough Indonesian side.

In a post-match statement Rivera said the Brunei performance before the red card incident was “amazing’ as the players upheld the game plan.

“But after that the referee destroyed the game. For us this was unbelievable. I can’t put it in words. For the first half, the players were playing with good motivation but then the game got destroyed.”

However, the head coach said “the main positive thing was that the team was playing well in every game. We improved much from the first match although we couldn’t attack much.

There were few things that we did better and today for me, we played a nice game.

“Even with 10 players we created chances against Indonesia”.
