How successful Brunei will be in the future is up to the young people of today as it is the young generation of today, the partnerships they build within their generation and across different generations that will take Brunei Darussalam closer to achieving Brunei Vision 2035 and BIBD Youth Empowerment Summit (BIBD YES!) hopes to play a part in this.
This was shared by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) Chief Marketing Officer Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Md Jaafar during a signing and appreciation ceremony and press conference at the BIBD Executive Lounge yesterday.
BIBD announced the launch of BIBD YES!, a youth-focussed initiative which aims to inspire positive change by reminding the youth that they are never too young to make a difference.
Themed It’s Your Turn, the hybrid summit will be held on December 12 and 13 at Jerudong International School with over 30 schools receiving their scholarship certificates for the summit.
The BIBD Chief Marketing Officer highlighted that the development of youth and ensuring that the younger generation is provided every possible opportunity to succeed has always been a cause that is close to BIBD’s heart. “BIBD strongly believes that education and lifelong learning are the foundation of national building,” said Hajah Nurul Akmar. “Now with BIBD YES!, we want to reach out to a wider youth audience to empower and provide them with the skills to take the lead and make a change.”
The event also saw event organiser and Curious Mind founder Shaun Hoon deliver welcoming remarks, as well as a signing and appreciation ceremony for sponsors comprising the BIBD Chief Marketing Officer, Progresif Head of Brand Strategy Hafiza binti Mohamad, CIC Environmental Services Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Shaiful Arief bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Razak, Total E&P Borneo BV Corporate Services Manager Harina Ramlee and Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd Finance Manager Pengiran Mas Norhazilinah binti Pengiran Momin.

At a press conference with BIBD Chief Marketing Officer, Progresif Head of Brand Strategy and Curious Mind founder, Hajah Nurul Akmar focussed on the unprecedented challenge youth face today. “However, they are also blessed with an unparalleled amount of resources at their fingertips and support from the public and private sectors who cheer them on,” said Hajah Nurul Akmar. She added that BIBD takes the leadership in this particular tough time to stand with the future generation, to educate and equip them to be mentally ready for the challenges to come. She added that BIBD Yes! Is part of BIBD’s initiative to help prepare the youth for a world of uncertainty and rapid changes, and to address the pressing issue of high youth unemployment in the Sultanate.
The press conference also saw Shaun Hoon explain that BIBD YES! will feature international speakers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Hungary conducting live presentations online, along with prominent entrepreneurs and youth leaders in Brunei Darussalam delivering keynote addresses. Among them will be Bruneian success story, Channel News Asia’s leading anchor and producer Steve Lai. He will join from Singapore via Zoom to discuss the importance of maintaining global perspectives amid a world of physical barriers.
This year, BIBD will be the leading supporter of the summit as the host sponsor, Progresif the platinum sponsor, CIC Environmental Services and Total the gold sponsors with Brunei LNG the silver. The summit is organised by Curious Mind, endorsed by the Brunei Tourism Board, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Ministry of Education, and supported by Young Entrepreneur Association Brunei, Global Shapers and Young Professional Network Brunei.
