Head of International Affairs, INTERPOL and ASEANAPOL at the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Haji Mohammad Termizi bin Dr Haji Awang Mohammad Yusop will visit the United States to participate in the 2019 International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) titled ‘Global Threat Cooperation’ from September 30 to October 18.
Haji Mohammad Termizi will survey the transnational threat landscape and the role of global cooperation and partnerships.
The participants will gain a deeper understanding of the pluralistic nature of the United States through exposure to key security issues, including cybersecurity, disinformation, terrorism, countering violent extremism, transnational organised crime, non-proliferation, and regional threats.
It will be held in Washington DC, New York, Colorado, and Florida.
Haji Mohammad Termizi met with Regional Security Officer Nadim Abdush-Shahid, who congratulated him on his selection for the programme recently.
He said, “This programme will give Haji Mohammad Termizi the opportunity to engage with experts on approaches to formulating and implementing policies that maximise coordination among agencies, promote information sharing, and enhance cooperation with foreign counterparts.”
Haji Mohammad Termizi said, “I would like to thank the US Government and the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for giving me the opportunity to take part in this year’s edition of the IVLP.
“I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the United States’ approach towards combating transnational crimes and towards enhancing inter-government cooperation and collaboration with foreign counterparts.
“The knowledge will be invaluable towards strengthening the relationship between the two countries and will pave the way for better cooperation with the greater global community towards a more secure world,” added Haji Mohammad Termizi.
The programme provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships between international participants and their American counterparts.
It is one of the United States’ Department of State’s most important exchange programmes, connecting current and emerging foreign leaders with the American people through short-term programmes to build mutual understanding on a wide range of issues.
Nearly 200,000 individuals have participated, including over 335 Chiefs of State or Heads of Government, and thousands of leaders from the public and private sectors.
