    RBPF Commissioner attends Hanoi conference

    Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Hambali recently led a delegation to the 39th ASEANAPOL Conference held at the Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam.

    From September 16-20, the conference with the theme of ‘Honoured by Partnership, Sustained by Unity’ was attended by police heads from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and host country Vietnam.

    Heads of delegation from ASEAN dialogue partners Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Russia, Turkey, the ASEAN Secretariat, Europol and INTERPOL also attended the conference, together with ASEANOPOL observers Fiji, Timor-Leste, the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

    During the conference, the RBPF handed over the chairmanship and the hosting of ASEANAPOL to the Office of Investigation Police Agency, Vietnam.

    Discussions were held on the advancement of cooperation among ASEAN member countries, in addition to combating terrorism, human trafficking, illegal drugs, financial and banking crimes, cybercrime and other issues.

    At the closing of the conference, the RBPF forwarded a nomination for the post of Director of Planning and Programme under the ASEANAPOL Secretariat, as well as the appointment of Cambodia as the next host for the 40th ASEANAPOL Conference in 2020.

    As the previous chairman and host of ASEANAPOL, the RBPF presented a number of accomplishments during the 38th ASEANAPOL Conference held in Brunei Darussalam in 2018, which included the signing of the 38th Joint Communique and agreements to new proposals and resolutions covering 14 topics of mutual interest.

    The RBPF was also host to the 35th ASEANAPOL Database System Technical Committee (ADSTC), the 9th ASEANAPOL Training Cooperation Meeting (ATCM), the 3rd ASEANAPOL Forensic Science Network Annual Meeting (AFSN) and the 28th Joint ASEAN Senior Police Officers’ Course (JASPOC) in Brunei Darussalam.
