The Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) emerged champions of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Football League 2019 Champion’s Match after defeating the Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) 5-4 penalties at the Bolkiah Garrison Mini Stadium yesterday.

Commander of the RBAF Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud was the guest of honour at the event and presented the prizes.

The RBLF collected the coveted RBAF Football League 2019 Champions Trophy for their efforts after they scored the winning spot-kick.

It turned out to be a cruel end to the air force personnel’s hopes of achieving a double, having dominated possession for most of the contest.

RBAirF, winners of the RBAF Football League 2019, saw an effort rattle against the crossbar in the second half.

Their second-half substitute had set himself up perfectly for a shot after outmuscling a RBAirF’s defender, but could not get his shooting boots in the vital moment, temporarily sparking palpable excitement as RBAirF camp rose from their bench.

As penalty shoot-out ensued, the RBAirF captain was the first to blink after his shot was saved, opening the door for RBLF to win the Champions Trophy with their spot-kick.

Meanwhile, RBLF came in second in the RBAF Football League 2019 with Ministry of Defence (MinDef) settling in third place. Other participating teams were Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and the Training Institute of RBAF (TI RBAF).

Meanwhile in recognition for their individual achievements, Herme bin Panjang scooped the Best Goalkeeper Award, Muhd Alif bin Haji Zulkifli walked away with the Top Scorer Award and Amir Azmal bin Md Tahir was awarded Best Player. All players represented the Royal Brunei Air Force.

The competition aimed to foster closer ties among all competing units and instil a sense of sportsmanship among the RBAF football players.
