The Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF) strives to always continue its role and duties effectively, said its Commander Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohammad Sharif bin Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim during the RBAirF 55th anniversary parade ceremony at the Air Movement Centre, Rimba Air Base yesterday.
“In line with the passage of time, the Royal Brunei Air Force continues to develop by acquiring air defence systems and aviation equipment enabling the Air Force to play its role and carry out its entrusted duties effectively. This effectiveness has been tested in several operations of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) within and outside the country,” the commander said.
“This year, history was made when the drone aircraft, Integrator the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) was launched during the RBAF Diamond Jubilee Celebration. Once the system is fully operational, air surveillance will improve and will provide level of situational awareness needed to defend the sovereignty of the nation,” he said.
From the aspect of air control and administration, he revealed that starting early this year, “Military Flying Sectors and Rimba Ground, Rimba Air Force base has been established and is fully operated by Air Traffic control, branch number three. It is hoped that this effort will further develop the capabilities of the RBAirF, and strengthen cooperation with the Department of Civil Aviation towards aviation safety.”
In ensuring that initiatives for operation development continues, he said that the RBAirF is also implementing the capacity and infrastructure development projects, among them a planned acquisition of support helicopter phase B, air transport, medium range air defence and early warning radar system.
“At the same time, continuous efforts are being done towards strengthening sustainability to determine the availability of air assets at optimal level. In addition, a study is carried out with the Ministry of Defence through the whole-of-ministry approach to identify more systematic and effective methods to raise the level of asset availability.”
Brigadier General (U) Dato Seri Pahlawan Mohammad Sharif also believed that “sophisticated systems and equipment will not be able replace personnel who are the most important parts in any organisation.
“Emphasis is always given to the importance of training and courses, locally or abroad. Meanwhile, RBAirF members have showcased their abilities and achievements excelled in improving the quality of the force’s capabilities from time to time”.
The parade ceremony was led by Major (U) Pengiran Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Wahab and Captain (U) Abdul Hakim bin Haji Yahya leading the Operations Group Contingent, and Lieutenant (U) Md Hafiy Mahdi bin Marzuki leading the Support Group Contingent.
The parade began with a general salute, followed by an inspection of the guard of honour by the RBAirF Commander.
A Doa Selamat was recited by RBAirF religious teacher Said bin Haji Yusop.
