A HOUSE handover ceremony was held yesterday as part of the on-going efforts of the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to lessen the burdens of those in need.
The recipient of the new house was Norzelan bin Haji Zainal, 53, at Jalan Binturan Penanjong, Kampong Penanjong, Tutong District.
Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar in his capacity as the President of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) presented the key and certificate of completion.
Also present were Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Wahab bin Apong in his capacity as the Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya and Acting Penghulu of Pekan Tutong; Acting Secretary of MUIB Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop; Head Religious Officer of the Tutong District Haji Jaya bin Haji Yahya; as well as officers from the Prime Minister’s Office, Brunei Islamic Religious Council and Public Works Department, Ministry of Development.
The house has four bedrooms, one living room, one kitchen, a bathroom and a toilet. Seeing the structure of Norzelan’s land exposed to soil erosion, MUIB approved a BND14,462.50 fund for groundwork and to build a wall around the backyard.
The expenses for the construction of the house and gabion wall are from the MUIB Zakat Fund allocation for the Asnaf Fakir Miskin totalling BND75,462.50.
Two companies – ABJ Construction and Normila Sdn Bhd – were contracted to implement the construction work for the house and gabion wall.
Norzelan is a retired personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) who has seven children from two wives.
His first wife passed away. His second wife and three children reside with him in their new home.
