With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Sultanate will observe the first day of Ramadhan 1442 Hijrah tomorrow, corresponding to April 14, 2021.
The announcement was broadcast on Radio Television Brunei last evening following the failure to sight the hilal (crescent).
The bid to see this year’s new moon of Ramadhan 1442 Hijrah was carried out by judges from the Syariah Courts, officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the State Mufti’s Office and the Survey Department at designated vantage points across the country.
Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar and Deputy Minister of Development Dato Seri Paduka Ar Awang Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin were present during the moon sighting event at the DST Tower in Jalan Tungku Link.
The result of moon sighting was confirmed by Chief Syar’ie Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar and the confirmation delivered to Minister of Religious Affairs and President of Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB) Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman in the presence of MUIB members at the minister’s meeting room yesterday evening.
The members present were Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Commissioner of Police Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohammad Irwan bin Haji Hambali and Syariah Appeal Court Judge Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Setia Raja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Suhaili bin Haji Mohiddin.
Prior to the announcement, a religious ceremony was held at the ministry’s Multaqa Hall which began with an Al-Quran verses recitation followed by Tahlil recitation, Doa Arwah and a mass Maghrib prayer.
As Muslims in the country will begin fasting tomorrow, Sunnat Tarawikh prayers, Sunnat Witir and Tedarus Al-Quran will begin this evening in accordance with the Hukum Syarak, the month of Sya’aban this year is rounded to 30 days.
