Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School (SASHHB) in Rimba emerged as the winner in a quiz for subjects under the Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB) on Monday.

Ma’had Islam Brunei in Tutong was second and Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School (SUAMPRIPAHS) in Kampong Katok came in third.

The competition was part of the intervention under Ilal Majdi Wal ‘Ula programme organised by Arabic Schools Division at the Islamic Students Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Acting Headmistress of Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School (SMALHB) Hajah Hamdiah binti Haji Salleh was the guest of honour.

The quiz helped to enhance the students’ competency in the Arabic language, particularly in listening and speaking skills, and was open to Year 11 Arabic school students. There were also quizzes for students present at the competition.

The Headmistress of the SUAMPRIPAHS Hajah Azizah binti Haji Mohammad said the quiz evaluated and tested the understanding and knowledge of the students.

“It also encouraged healthy competition and cooperation among the students and helped improve their confidence level.

“It motivated the students to speak more boldly in Arabic and participate, as it is used in all religious subjects as the main language of presentation,” she added.
