“With an ever-changing landscape for the public service, the expectations for civil servants are continuously being raised. To meet this growing change, innovative and transformative steps are required to modernise public services.”
This was highlighted by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Civil Service, Welfare, International and Media) at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu at a roadshow conducted by the Public Service Department (JPA) at Pusat Insani, Seria yesterday.
The roadshow showcased the department’s newly implemented Public Service Department Strategic Plan 2021-2025, along with JPA’s efforts to improve public service excellence.
Haji Muhammad Suffian said the transformation is in line with JPA’s new vision of Transformasi Perkhidmatan Awam Ke Arah Brunei Darussalam Yang Maju, while citing statistics compiled by the JPA highlight the increasing number of excellent performances.
“However, this record also shows around 1,204 public service workers being dealt disciplinary action for misdemeanours, such as not attending work without proper permission and drug abuse offences.”
Haji Muhammad Suffian noted that both aspects of the rise in performances, as well as disciplinary actions taken against tardiness, are to be taken with full responsibility, to ensure the department’s integrity.
On how COVID-19 affected the delivery of services, especially those requiring direct contact, “Alhamdulillah, while COVID-19 is under control through the efforts of the government and the nation, we must still remain vigilant, as civil servants play a key role as the lifeblood of public services,” he said.
Legislative Council (LegCo) members Yang Berhormat Haji Abdul Hamid bin Haji Mumin and Yang Berhormat Hanapi bin Mohd Siput; Acting Director General of Public Service and event chairman Dr Norfarizal bin Othman; Acting Deputy Director General of Public Service Hajah Noor Airah binti Haji Abdul Rahman; Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board Acting Chairman Haji Azmi bin Haji Abdul Rahim; and Acting Belait District Officer Mohammad Yassin bin Haji Ahmed were also present.
