PSD keeps environment sustainability in mind

Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha pledged the Postal Services Department’s (PSD) commitment to environment sustainability in a message marking this year’s World Post Day.

This is in line with Brunei Vision 2035, he added, noting however that several challenges lay ahead in spite of the shift to electronic mail.

Pointing out that the traditional, physical mail generates income, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary said the PSD will forge a path forward with best practices, remaining innovative and adaptive according to the times.

With the global theme ‘Post for Planet’, the minister reiterated that it is time to raise awareness on the impacts to the environment, with the postal services being the foremost agency in dealing with mail and packages.

Postal services agents in the 192 Universal Postal Union member countries boast a manpower of five million in over 600,000 offices worldwide.

In observation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SGDs) towards environmental sustainability, the minister called on the PSD and couriers in the country to be responsible and take action to contribute towards environmental sustainability.

The PSD’s action plan includes planning ahead on its journeys; managing destinations better; increasing productivity and efficiency; and minimising costs.
