A graduation ceremony for the completion of in-class training and internship portion of An-Nur Harapan’s UnikLearn trainees in the 2nd cycle of 2019 of the UnikLearn programme was held at the Songket Ballroom I of The Rizqun International Hotel in Gadong yesterday.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour.
Also present were Chairman of An-Nur Harapan Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab-Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit and members of the Board of Directors.
The ceremony began with a Doa Selamat followed by welcoming remarks by member of the An-Nur Board of Directors Noorsurainah binti Tengah who also presented appreciation certificates to the programme partners and sponsors.
The minister presented the certificates to the seven trainees, Awangku Halim bin Pengiran Marzuki, Mohammad Izzan Nasiruddin bin Nordin, Mark Clemson Ang, Ahmad Ruzaini bin Haji Abdul Razak, Muhammad Syahrul Izzam bin Asmat, Mohammad Wafiq Syahmi bin Haji Mohamad Annuar and Haji Zul Fadzli @ Abdunnafi’ bin Haji Matali.
The minister then toured the exhibition by the trainees, congratulating and encouraging them.
A vocational training and internship programme funded and managed by An-Nur Harapan, UnikLearn trainees are assessed and trained in basic living skills, home skills, community participation skills, social skills, independent living skills and vocational skills. They are also exposed to the workplace environment, maintenance through observation and final transition to gainful employment. The transition to workplace segment includes having the trainees undergo placement for a minimum of three to six months at suitable and willing organisations in the country, in line with the trainees’ capabilities and interests.
UnikLearn programme started in 2018 with five trainees who underwent their internships and were subsequently employed at several companies in the country.
The success of the pilot UnikLearn 2018 and donations from various sponsors and collaborators have enabled An-Nur Harapan to continue on with the UnikLearn programme for 2019 with seven youth with different abilities who underwent the session from last March to January.
This batch of trainees underwent their internship at several organisations such as Royal Brunei Catering, Mulia Hotel, Eco Bumi Arkitek, Poni Divers and AMD United Transportation. A number of the trainees will continue their internship or have gone on to gainful employment.
