    Promoting high-tech agriculture among youth

    The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood launched the ‘6th Exposure Programme for Youth with the Potential to enter the field of high-tech agriculture virtually yesterday.

    The programme will be conducted every Tuesday and Thursday until December 30.

    It is one of the department’s initiatives in supporting the Strategic Plan of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood 2016-2022, to increase the output of the agricultural sector.

    The programme aims to attract youth to venture into agriculture and to expose agricultural enterprises as a profitable business, especially in the field of crop industry using high technology systems to increase output.

    The programme is divided into briefing sessions by Acting Director of Agriculture and Agrifood Hajah Masliana Yuliah binti Abdullah and officials from the department, and visits to the farms of local entrepreneurs, focussing on several production systems and technologies.

    Among the topics presented are non-seasonal vegetable and fruit cultivation training using high technology such as farming techniques, financial management training as well as investment opportunities in the crop industry.

    The programme, held in collaboration with other government agencies and financial institutions, hopes to increase participants’ comprehensive knowledge and achieve the objective of producing committed, progressive and productive agricultural youth entrepreneurs and jointly support the development of the agricultural sector in the country to further contribute to gross domestic product of the Sultanate.
