Promoting China-ASEAN educational cooperation

Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China have long enjoyed excellent relations and close cooperation, especially in education, said Minister of Education Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman during the 2021 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) held virtually yesterday.

The event is a governmental platform that plays an active role in promoting educational cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the People’s Republic of China and ASEAN member states, contributing towards the construction of the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative. It has been held since 2008 annually in the Guizhou Province of the People’s Republic of China.

The 2021 CAECW was held in the province, via both physical and online, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, as well as Guizhou Provincial People’s Government, and co-organised by Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, and the Foreign Affairs Office of Guizhou Province.

The event was attended by education ministers, other ministers and leaders from the People’s Republic of China and ASEAN member states, and ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi.

Education ministries of both nations have established various joint cooperation and collaboration between their educational institutions, as well as with other sectors, on diverse matters such as on higher education, technical and vocational education and training, and on other initiatives and programmes.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah also congratulated the People’s Republic of China in spearheading the event, which substantiate the dedication and commitment of the People’s Republic of China to advance education through indispensable mutual associations.

Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad and officials also attended.
