BRUNEI local agricultural business intelligence company, Agrome IQ, recently conducted their Sprout IQ Farm-to-School Train-The-Trainers workshop.
The session was exclusive for teachers from the Jerudong International School (JIS), Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School, and School of Agro-Technology and Applied Sciences of IBTE Agrotechnology Campus for them to teach and guide students on the Sprout IQ farm-to-school educational platform, a press release stated.
The programme for the three schools was sponsored by Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd to be integrated under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategic initiative, that invests in entrepreneurship, education, arts and culture and environment.
The strategic initiative being implemented by Progresif aims to support the Vision 2035 of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to develop a dynamic and sustainable economy, highly skilled people, and a quality of life which is among the top 10 nations in the world.
The platform is a modern customisable educational programme that is suitable according to levels of the young demographics to make youth competent in growing their own nutritional food and instilling them with values of knowledge, self-reliance, entrepreneurial and sense of responsibility while also exposing them to hands on experience on agriculture hence encouraging them to be an ‘agripreneur.’
The curriculum covers core modules which consists of planning such as choosing the seeds, farm types, assessing the climate and soil type up to harvesting the crops.
Choice of optional modules are also offered ranging from new technology in agriculture, traditional farming and introduction to fertigation system. The company provides a mobile app technology that supports the farming process with daily guides and activities to allow anyone to grow.
