The National Road Safety Council (MKKJR), through the Land Transport Department (JPD, launched the Vehicle Safety Awareness Programme at The Airport Mall yesterday.
The programme is part of the initiatives to support the Brunei Darussalam Road Safety Strategic Plan 2025 launched on December 28, 2020 under the 4th Strategic Enablers – Socialising Education and Awareness on Road Safety.
The event also saw the launch of an e-book guideline titled ‘Understanding Your Vehicle’ by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Dato Seri Setia Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof as Chairperson of MKKJR.
Understanding Your Vehicle aimed to guide users on auto upkeep, basic car care, maintenance, and repair. The public can log on to MKKJR website at www.mkkjr.gov.bn to download the e-book.
Through the Vehicle Safety Awareness Programme, MKKJR hopes to boost awareness on the importance of car maintenance and safety. It also underscores the significance of legal modification and upgrade installed by accredited workshops.
The two-day programme is also aimed at disseminating information on car maintenance, including the correct use of petrol or fluids such as engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant for the vehicle and steps to prevent car fire.
An online forum with Director-General of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) cum Asean Secretary-General for New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) Dr Khairil Anwar bin Abu Kassim on the importance of maintaining and emphasising safety was also held.
Other panellists in the forum were representatives from Brunei Automobile Traders Association (BATA) Peter Ta’ala and Haji Mansor bin Haji Mohd Yassin from NBT Brunei.
The programme also features an exhibition on the list of accredited workshops, and Road Accident Data Enhancement and Development (RADED).
The Fire and Rescue Department is also exhibiting car fire prevention measures while the Brunei Automobile Traders Association on the importance of car maintenance.
There are also displays on safe steps to refuel petrol and vehicle fluids by the Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd (BSM) and the importance and role of car insurance by the Brunei Insurance and Takaful Association (BITA).
Solar film, tyre condition, workshop safety and equipment as well as vehicle dashcam are also on display.
