Programme aims to produce future qari, qariah

TO PRODUCE youth with potentials in the field of Al-Quran recitation with Tarannum, the Tilawah al-Quran and Dikir Unit of the Further Education Division, Islamic Studies Department began the Youth Al-Quran Reading Scheme (STAR) yesterday with a registration held at the Hall of the Beribi Religious School.

Head of the Tilawah Al-Quran and Dikir Unit Ustazah Pengiran Masidayu @ Hazirah binti Pengiran Hussin was present to brief the new students.

The scheme began in 1997 with the objective of training and guiding youth in reciting Al-Quran with Tarannum with the aim of producing Al-Quran reciters with the potential to become the country’s Qari and Qariah on a national level.

An interview session was held on November 11 to 18, 2018, and for 2019, a total of 141 students were chosen and accepted to follow the scheme from all four districts.

For the Brunei-Muara District, a total of 123 students registered at the Beribi Religious School, while four students from Tutong District registered at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Norain Religious School, whereas the Belait District saw seven students registered at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Religious School in Seria, and seven students registered at the Temburong Arabic Preparatory School.

The event began with the recitation of the Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the briefing session and a Tausyeh Wajib performance from Year 2 students, and concluded with the recitation of a Doa Selamat.
