Two business premises violating the Price Control Act were warned during an inspection on business premises in the Belait District recently.
One business was additionally issued two BND500 fines for selling above the maximum price set for a number of cooking oil products, as well as not clearly displaying the price tag.
Another business was issued a warning notice for selling a number of cooking oil and powdered milk products above the maximum price.
The inspection was carried out by the Consumer Affairs Department with the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT).
Meanwhile, the SDT issued a confistication notice to the owner of a weighing and measuring instrument for having an expired registration.
Two warning notices were also given to companies for failing to display net weight marks on packaged products.
Traders who carry out sales activities at the fish and vegetable market have also been instructed to always display price tags on the items sold to foster price transparency and give consumers choice.
It was also shared with the management and packaging workers at the business premises regarding the procedures for packaging and weighing the net weight of the products correctly.
The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) and the SDT advised traders to comply with laws to assist in establishing sound and ethical business practices which contribute to resilient and sustainable domestic consumption.
In addition, the public is also advised to use official channels for complaints and inquiries on the Price Control Act.
