Premier League title put on hold as Tabuan rout Rimba

TABUAN Muda ensured the DST Premier League winner will only be formally announced on the final day of the season after they swept aside Rimba Star FC 6-0 in the DST Premier League at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last Sunday.

The DST Premier League winners will not be confirmed tonight even if league leaders DPMM FC overcome Rainbow FC at the Jerudong Park Mini Stadium.

DPMM FC, who made their debut in Brunei’s second tier this season, will almost be assured of the title with a win against the side they beat 4-0 to seal their progress in the DST FA Cup.

But, Tabuan, who play the league newcomers on the final day of the season, made sure that the celebrations will be put on hold after showing no mercy to the basement dwellers.

Hopes of a scenario where the title race goes down the wire were dashed when Tabuan slipped to a loss to Panchor Murai, who had already beaten them in the FA Cup on penalties.

Tabuan stormed to a 4-0 lead in the first half through goals from Mohd Hafiz bin Suhardi, Muhammad Syafiq Safiuddin bin Abdullah Shariff, Mohd Azinur Rashiman bin Haji Jufri and Md Aminuddin bin Haji Masri.

They extended their lead in the second half through a goal each from Mohd Khoirunnaas bin Khalid and Mohd Noor Sherzaman bin Haji Hassan Ahmad.

Tabuan are level on points with champions-elect DPMM FC, who can regain their three-point lead with their game-in-hand.

DPMM FC, whose players were put through their paces in their final training session ahead of the Rainbow game yesterday, have not conceded a single goal in five league appearances and scoring 23 in the process.

Should DPMM FC defeat Rainbow, their far superior goal difference should ensure the title even if Tabuan conjure their only defeat of the season.
