Powerful drive with optimal comfort

Recently, I had the opportunity to test drive the new Proton X50 at the Proton Carnival.

During the exclusive test drive with a Proton Brunei representative, I found the interior – stylishly designed with dual-tone interiors and exteriors.

The ride comfort was optimal, despite the vehicle being a mini SUV, with a powerful engine and transmission.

As for the exterior, the X50 boasts full LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, quad exhaust tailpipes, front Proton emblem welcome lamps, panoramic sunroof and floating floor console.

A 1.5L TGDi engine lurks under the front bonnet, supported by a seven-speed dual clutch transmission with manual mode.

Steering modes are also available by pressing on the steering wheel mounted buttons for ‘normal’, ‘comfort’ and ‘sport’ while there are three drive modes – normal, eco and sport.

As with most vehicles today, the Electric Parking Brake and Auto Brake Hold are driver-friendly feature in the X50. Owners can also remotely start up their X50 using the electronic key remote.

The X50 bears in mind advanced technology while also forging safety by hosting advanced features to detect and prevent imminent danger, keeping drivers and passengers safe.

It carries six SRS Airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Auto Park Assist, a 360 camera and is secured with an immobiliser and anti-theft alarm system.

The safety features do not stop there; it goes further by featuring Autonomous Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System and Intelligent High Beam Control.

Comfort is paramount for drivers and passengers in the interior cabin with lush black and red leatherette covered seats, panels and dashboard, N95 Cabin Filters and Rear Air Vents added with Auto Rain Sensor Front Wipers, Driver Power Seat and Auto Air-Conditioning.

For convenience while driving, users can say ‘Hi Proton’ and the vehicle will respond by giving access to its 10.25-inch Infotainment Head Unit with further voice commands for online navigation, online music streaming and weather forecast with smartphone connectivity.

There are three USB ports, one in the front and two in the rear cabins.

Proton Brunei brings in the full X50 line-up variants of its 1.5T GDi Flagship, 1.5T Premium, 1.5T Executive and 1.5T Standard with varying changes in its features from the flagship model test-driven.

The flagship model, unlike the others offered, comes in full colour variants of Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Ocean Blue, Citric Orange and Passion Red.

In addition, the first 200 buyers of the X50 will be gifted Apple gadgets including an iPhone 12 (128GB) for the Premium and Flagship models and an iPad Mini Pro for the Executive model.
