Members of the media were invited to take the Mercedes-Benz S 450L for a test drive to experience the extent of its power, safety and comfort at the Mercedes-Benz Autohaus New Year open house celebration hosted by Jati Transport Sdn Bhd

Stepping into the S 450L, you immediately get the feel of a luxury saloon with the materials, ambience and workmanship fulfilling diverse requirements, presenting technological innovations which had yet to be featured in any automobile up until now.

S 450L comes with numerous assistance systems that keep drivers safe on the road, giving a sense of security.

From the Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC Active Proximity Control – which controls the distance to vehicles in front up to a speed of 210km/h and, if necessary, brakes the vehicle with up to a 50-per-cent of the maximum braking power – to the Active Steer Assist – that helps drivers keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane on straight stretches of road or slight bends where up to 130km/h, the system also uses vehicles travelling in front for orientation. The S 450L now provides even more comfortable support for the driver to keep a safe distance and steering. The speed is now adjusted automatically ahead of curves or junctions.

The Active Braking Assist with Cross-Traffic Function and Congestion emergency braking function can help avoid or lessen the consequences of accidents with vehicles in front as well as crossing vehicles and pedestrians, while the Active Blind Spot Assist warns the driver of vehicles in the blind spot during a lane change, and helps avoid collisions with one-sided brake application.

This is complemented by Evasive Steering Assist, a considerably improved Active Lane Keeping Assist as well as additional functions of the Active Emergency Stop Assist. The Active Lane Keeping Assist warns the driver unintentionally drifting out of a lane and helps to return the vehicle to its lane by one-sided brake application, while the Active Emergency Stop Assist springs into action when the driver is no longer able to intervene in the driving process, such as in the event of a medical emergency.

Meanwhile, the Active Lane Changing Assist can also help with changing lanes conveniently between 80 and 180 km/h.

Also included in the Driving Assistance package is Pre Safe Plus, which takes into account the dangerous situations caused by traffic following behind, such as a rear impact for example, as it is able to initiate preventive measures to protect occupants against an impending rear impact, including warning traffic following behind, activating the seat belt tensioners or applying the brakes when the vehicle is stationary.

The interior of the S-Class sets new standards when it comes to comfort and well-being. The extended ambient lighting showcases the interior like a work of art by composing 10 colour worlds from 64 shades.

The exterior of the Mercedes S 450L is further highlighted by the Multibeam LED headlamps with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, which adjusts the headlamps with 84 individually controllable LEDs automatically to the light and driving conditions and enables continuous high-beam functions.

The LED additional Ultra Range Highbeam’ also produces the maximum legally permitted light intensity and only falls short of the reference value at more than 650 metres; surely a perfect feature to let oncoming cars from the opposite lane know of your presence during heavy rain and low visibility.
