Poultry farmers gain new insights on probiotics

Azlan Othman

A seminar promoting the use of probiotics in poultry farming over antibiotics was held at the Rimba Horticulture Centre yesterday.

Probiotics are live microorganisms that are intended to have health benefits when consumed or applied to the body.

They can be found in yoghurt and other fermented food, dietary supplements, and beauty products.

The probiotics seminar was delivered by founder and Chief Innovation Officer of the VSC Group in Thailand Dr Winai Chottianchai, who shared his findings on the benefits of using probiotics to some 50 participants.

Benefits included its effectiveness in maintaining a healthy digestive system for poultry products and improve immunity against diseases, which can promote growth and egg-laying performances alongside overall health, he said.

The event was a joint collaboration between the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DAA) and DD Agribiz.

Present at the event were executives, owners and technical advisors from the local poultry industry as well as officers from the DAA, headed by the Head of Division of Livestock Industry and Veterinary Services Dr Diana Dennis.

Also in attendance was Manager of DD Agribiz Hajah
