A 39-year-old policeman was indicted in the Magistrate’s Court with one attempt, three cheating and four road traffic charges yesterday.

Lance Corporal 4555 Sahlan bin Haji Mat Sahat denied the attempt and cheating charges, but pleaded guilty to driving his vehicle with an expired road tax on four occasions.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) launched an investigation on the defendant after a woman claimed to have been stopped by a policeman who said his car windscreen had been damaged by a stone coming from the direction of her car.

It was also alleged that Lance Corporal 4555 Sahlan had insisted she paid for the damaged windscreen.

Senior Magistrate Kamaliah Fadhilah binti Haji Ibrahim adjourned the case to December 21 for trial dates to be fixed, while releasing the defendant on a bail of BND5,000 with strict conditions.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Dayangku Didi-Nuraza binti Pengiran Haji Latiff prosecuted the case.
