OFFICERS of the Royal Brunei Police Force’s (RBPF) Company ‘C’ Reserve on Monday night foiled a contraband smuggling attempt and detained a foreigner for his allegedly involvement.

Puji Santoso, 38-year-old Indonesian national who works as a driver in a local private company, was caught trying to smuggle the contraband into the country through a mouse trail at Simpang 1878, Kampong Junjungan, Limau Manis.

The officers found 15 cartons of cigarettes of numerous brands in the vehicle. The suspect and evidence were brought back to the Limau Manis Police Station.

The Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered the Indonesian citizen to settle a fine of BND10,240, or serve nine months’ imprisonment, after he pleaded guilty to the possession of the smuggled cigarettes.

Chief Magistrate Pengiran Masni binti Pengiran Haji Bahar presided over the case.
