Police shoot dead criminal after high-speed chase

KOTA KINABALU (Bernama) – Police shot dead a criminal in an exchange of fire at Jalan Taman Perindustrian Kota Kinabalu (KKIP),Sepanggar, early yesterday following a high-speed chase.

Sabah police deputy commissioner Datuk Razarudin Husain @ Abd Rasid said in the 2am incident, a police team was on crime prevention patrol in the Jalan 1Borneo area before they saw a suspicious-looking man riding a motorcycle.

“The suspect fled the scene when the police wanted to stop him, and this led to a high-speed chase by the police until Jalan KKIP when the motorcycle skidded and the suspect fired several shots at the police.

“The police then returned fire in self-defence and the shots hit the suspect, who died at the scene,” he told reporters yesterday.

Razarudin said police found a .38 revolver with five live bullets and three bullet shells at the scene, as well as three more live bullets in the suspect’s trouser pocket.

“Also found was a sling bag containing several tools believed to be used in house break-ins,” he said.

Razarudin said the police were identifying the suspect’s identity and his fingerprints had been sent to the Bukit Aman police headquarters to be analysed.

“Initial investigation also revealed that the motorcycle used by the suspect was reportedly missing in Tamparuli on February 5,” he said.
