The Royal Brunei Police Force’s (RBPF) Marine Police detained a local man and a woman, and seized 420 bottled and 380 cans of alcoholic beverages early yesterday morning.

Following a public tip-off, the Marine Police river patrol personnel monitored the area of Pulau Berbunut, Brunei River waters, and detected two small boats and a large boat fleeing after noticing police presence.

The police later found the two small boats without its operators in the parking lot of Kampong Sungai Besar, while detection of the large boat was unsuccessful.

The police detained the driver and passengers of a car parked near the two boats. Police personnel inspected the vehicle and found crates of liquor. The suspects and evidence were taken to the Marine Police before being handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED).

The RBPF will increase frequency of patrols and inspections to ensure the country is free from cross-border crime.

The community is urged to notify the police of suspicious activities and individuals in their area.
