The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will continue to improve the quality of public safety, said Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof during the 19th Legislative Council session yesterday.

As one of its main goals, the PMO will continue to formulate strategies to preserve political stability and defend national sovereignty.

One of its main initiatives is the vehicle and motorcycle rental project under the Royal Brunei Police Force Asset Acquisition Planning project for the Royal Brunei Police Force, Narcotics Control Bureau and Internal Security Department, which aims to ensure smoother operations and to increase the presence of the agencies throughout the country.

The minister also shared that the PMO will commission the use of the national coastal surveillance system (NCSS) this year, which will further strengthen the capability of security and enforcement agencies in the Sultanate to suppress the activities of criminal activities in the waters and maritime areas.

In terms of legislation, the courts have taken the initiative through the State Judiciary Department by using various technologies to ensure that the processing of cases will always proceed.

A direct result of the experience faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the court will use technology to speed up and improve efficiency in resolving cases.

The Attorney General’s Chambers will also make use of technology so that the public will have access to legislation and justice.

In addition, the public’s well-being will continue to be maintained through the delivery services monitored through the Management Services Department. Among the initiatives towards improving service quality is the Premier Innovation Award (AIP) programme, a recognition for government departments that have implemented new and innovative approaches in delivering services.

The minister also shared that Radio Television Brunei and the Information Department both play a role as the government’s official media agencies in providing fast, authentic and accurate information to support the country’s policies and strategies in providing information such as policies and regulations to the public.

This year, he said, the Irsyad Hukum programme from the State Mufti’s Office will continue to intensify its delivery of information to the public.
