Community for Brunei, a corporate sustainability initiative by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), was named as the winner of the Emerging Social Enterprise Award in the Brunei Special Award Category at the ASEAN Business Awards 2021, held last evening on a virtual platform

The exclusive Brunei Special Award was introduced this year in conjunction with Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2021. The award aims to give recognition to deserving ASEAN registered non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that have notably played a significant role in promoting and driving social, environmental and community development at both national and regional levels.

“We are truly humbled by this recognition. Community for Brunei was launched during the height of COVID-19 in Brunei Darussalam as a way to support micro enterprises affected by the pandemic,” said BIBD’s Chief Marketing Officer Hajah Nurul Akmar binti Haji Mohd Jaafar on the win.

A partnership between The Collective, Think Axis, Alicia Newn and BIBD, an illustration of supporting local talents and enterprises, she added, Community for Brunei has evolved into more than just an online marketplace.

Organisations can now make use of the website to promote causes and volunteering opportunities, inviting members of the public to volunteer their time in causes that they are passionate about.

At the same time, NGOs can raise funds or make donations directly through the bank’s website, said Hajah Nurul Akmar adding that BIBD’s aim is for Community for Brunei to be a central platform for social issues and causes; not only can we raise awareness but we can now mobilise the appropriate resources to truly make a decision.

“This is really the essence of being Bruneian at Heart – joining together to help those in need, realising that shared responsibility and common efforts are the key to nation building and prosperity.”

She also said as a Partner in Progress, the bank aims to provide aid to the less fortunate through its CSR initiatives as a way to contribute to the country.

Community for Brunei is an initiative that is extremely close to the bank’s hearts, and the bank is honoured to be recognised by the ASEAN Business Awards.
